The
2002 Capital Campaign focused on the renovation of the Dinosaur
Depot Museum's Discovery Room. The Discovery Room was created
by our volunteers and staff after the renovation of the Exhibit
Hall. The new Discovery Room created opportunities for our
younger visitors to learn by touching and handling fossils, replicas
of dinosaur bones, and other fun stuff.
The
Discovery Room has been highly successful with our young visitors
both in school groups and with families. It was created with
banquet tables and materials on hand and needed to be brought up to
the standards of the Matthew Fisher Exhibit Hall.
Community
response to our campaign has been wonderful and has allowed us to
complete the renovation.
The
Discovery Room is developed around activity
stations. Each station, like the Ant Hill, has a short
lesson and a series of questions designed to develop an
understanding of that lesson.
New
technology has been blended with the old in the Discovery
Room. Here an electronic microscope has been married to
a computer to reveal the world of microscopic fossils.
Among
the new features in the Dinosaur Discovery Room is a Dig Box
where kids of all ages can experience the thrill of finding
and exposing a dinosaur fossil.

overall view of the Discovery Room showing how it follows the
theme of the Matthew Fisher Exhibit Hall.
Some
very happy visitors for Montgomery, Texas.
As
a final step, we have replaced the banquet tables and folding
chairs with library-grade book cases, tables and chairs for the
Children's Corner and the Library Area.
